Without fail, the Utah legislature stuck down legislation that would requre female contraception to be covered by health insurance – theocracy at work. However, a lawsuit involving the Union Pacific railroad company may force Utah into the latter part of the 20th century. The suit’s premise is simple: UP’s health plan covers Viagra (as do most state employees’ plans in Utah), but will not cover birth control pills, even when prescribed for non-contraceptive reasons. As such, the plaintiff cites sex discrimination.

Let’s hope the plaintiff wins – women in Utah could use the liberty!
