Sometimes, open source can be a pain in the rear (e.g. the *nuke family of blogging software, the umpteen variations on the theme of Linux, etc.).

But there are also times when open source can be a thing of beauty.

If you use Apple Mail 2.0 in Mac OS 10.4, there is a wonderful add-on called MailTags. This nifty little plug-in allows you to tag email messages with all sorts of identifier info, thus enhancing the utility of Apple’s Mail application.
