A lazy, post-sick-day ride to shake off the cobwebs and enjoy a lovely afternoon. The ride was slow, both due to the fact that I didn’t plan on a fast ride and to the fact that Memorial Day weekend in DC is a crowded one. Rolling Thunder loads up the streets of the greater DC area with motorcyclists (who are all happy to share the road with non-motorized cyclists), and the giant family picnics mean funky parking patterns at Hains Point.

So I rode more slowly, which was just fine. I got to see lots of ducks with their ducklings, geese with their goslings, egrets and even a few turtles along the inlets of the Potomac River. I spent a little time plane spotting down at Washington Sailing Marina before making a quick ride home, just beating sunset.
