Sure, it’s a bit of a stereotype, but the cherry blossoms are one of the best things about living in DC.
Sure, they bring about swarms of clueless and unaware tourists, who wander out in front of cars, who block sidewalks and Metro escalators, and who leave their detritus all over our fair city. But I’m willing to live with that when such beauty can transform the Tidal Basin and the two Potomac Parks into a wonderland of pink and white.
This photo was snapped along the Potomac on the west edge of West Potomac Park. It’s a tree the doesn’t get a lot of attention because it’s not close to the tidal basin, or to street parking. It’s easiest to get to on foot or bicycle – and I biked in. In the distance is the western shore of the Potomac and the Navy & Marine Memorial.
And I should also mention that the blossoms in the Kenwood section of Bethesda, MD, are equally beautiful, and create for an idyllic neighborhood scene.
(Be sure to see the views from sprite, Sweetpea, Hillary and MsP, as well!)
