how it all began

A shout out to Kathy who pointed out the new “Book of Genesis (Opening Day)” to me. If anything, this is a tip of the hat to Andrew’s argument of baseball as civic religion.

sports overload

A lot of sports today: a Wizards-Bulls basketball game and a Nats-Mets game. The fun kicked off at 3:00 pm (though we got to MCI Center at the end of the first quarter having taken our time getting downtown), and the Wizards opened up a decent lead over the Bulls, who had won the first

a great resource for vegetarian baseball fans

Even though I’m not vegetarian, I have a lot of friends who are, and many who are leaning that way. As I noted earlier, RFK Stadium is selling veggie dogs this season for both Nationals and DC United (soccer) games. But trying to find veggie fare at ballparks is tough, to say the least. That’s

ballparks from space

(Updated on March 26, 2008.) The new Google Maps service is really great, especially the satellite imagery option. So I decided to put it to the test and try to find as many present and former MLB ballparks as possible. Are you ready?

nats win!

Just got back from RFK, where the Nationals won their home opener in front of a sellout crowd. The energy in the stadium was intoxicating – so great to see the D.C. fans support their new team. I’ll post pictures tomorrow (the batteries in the camera just lasted until the end of the game), but

opening day (night)!

Only 2 hours and 45-odd minutes until the first real pitch is thrown at RFK Stadium! I can’t wait!

leave rfk’s name alone!

There’s this huge argument over the naming rights for RFK Stadium, the home of the Washington Nationals, one that is overblown, in my estimate. The proponents of DC baseball have tried to get a corporate sponsor for the stadium, citing a need for extra revenue. Amongst the suitors: all branches of the U.S. armed forces.
