yes, i’m still alive

Still in Utah, still writing from a local coffee emporium. Mom’s recovery is going well, and the house cleaning is going along as well as it can. Mom is getting around well on crutches and she’s getting more and more mobile every day. The house is also becoming more crutch-friendly every day. I’m keeping afloat.

update from slc

Made it to Salt Lake City late on Wednesday. Storms up and down the east coast threw all flights from BWI akilter. We were very lucky that ours was a non-stop to SLC. Mom’s surgery went well, though she’s staying an extra day or two in hospital because of the pain (hip replacement is traumatic,

heading westward…

I take off for Utah in a few hours. Just put the LeMond into a travel case, and it just fits (let’s just say my frame is big). I had to take it to a shop to have my pedals removed (my little pedal wrench just didn’t give me the needed torque), bought cat supplies

four little political rants

Some food for Friday morning: Rep. Tim Boehner (R-OH) shouldn’t be so quick to mention the potential of genocide in Iraq when he (as well as most of congress) has done virtually nothing to address the current genocide in Darfur. Look at what already exists and your woeful inaction before trying to hold the concept

dates change – grrr….

I’m an only child. So when a parent is due for surgery, I head out for support – both moral and physical. Since my mom has surgery coming up, I’d started making plans around the scheduled surgery date: looking at airfares, looking into a cat sitter, and arranging to rent a hardshell bike case to

naïve politicians

Want proof of a naïve voting populace? Look no further than the zany antics of Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, who resorts to non-creative name calling about western politicians who speak truth to power. Yup – Shurtleff still buys into the beat-to-death and entirely untrue argument connecting Iraq, 9/11 and Al-Qaida. He beats on a

back at work

Today was my first day back at work in over a week, and it went fine. I was refreshed, and things were uneventful. I’ve posted photos from the trip to my Flickr page. I hope that winter will find its way to DC soon, because I already miss the snow.

on my way back home

I write this entry from the seating area around gate B36 at Denver International Airport, awaiting my flight back to DC. All-in-all, it was a good trip home. My mom’s hip is really bothering her, and it’s evident in her ginger movements around the house. Her surgery is in June, and she (and I) can’t

two days of skiing under the belt

Spent the last two days skiing out here in Utah. And if there was one common feature between the two areas I skied, it was the bitterly cold weather. But each place was its own, unique experience.

back in utah – home of winter

Flew into Salt Lake City last night to be greeted by a steady snowfall – yay! Winter, you’ve been missed! All day, lake effect snows have shrouded the Wasatch Mountains, and the alpenglow this evening was most lovely. I spent today hanging out with my mom, going over things (e.g. house repairs, our trip to
