a citizen’s stadium

Given that a new stadium will be built for the Washington Nationals, a lot of people are speculating about the design. Andrew Clem, a big-time baseball fan, has come up with his own proposal for a D.C. stadium. His design is quite interesting: unique, not a cookie-cutter “neo-retro” stadium that was the wave of the late-1990s, and with great sightlines of Capitol Hill.

Good job, Andrew!

the silent (musical) majority

Interesting tactic for noise abatement: a “silent disco” will be tried at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. In response to complaints from neighbors, festival attendees will listen to late night music on wireless headphones (each with individual volume controls).

For some reason, I don’t think this idea will work at my usual summer music festival. But it’s a cool idea.

americans united

My DC friend, Sam (a.k.a. “DC Sam”), works for a great organization that aims to keep church and state separate: Americans United for Separation of Church and State. Their blog is always worth a read, as is the rest of their site.

Keep up the good work, Sam!

songs in list form

As a (lapsed) music theory junkie, I love that somebody has started a thread to analyze song lyrics in list form. To quote Zaphod Beeblebrox, “it’s better than good, it’s better than amazing – it’s amazingly amazing!”

my boss’ doppelgangers

My boss just walked up to me and asked: “why do the two men in this shot look like me? Was I cloned?”

Doppelgangers

Whoever says that human cloning hasn’t hit the big time – well, it’s here!

workout log: 26 march 2005

Activity: alpine skiing
Location: Stratton, VT
Start time: 1230 hrs.
End time: 1540 hrs.
Weather: sunny, 40 degrees
Max HR (bursts): 175 (beats in 10 seconds x 6)
Type: anaerobic

Possibly my last skiing venture for the 2004-2005 season, it was a great way to go. Got in 12 runs, approximately 14,000 feet of vertical, mostly high-speed GS and SG turns, working on dynamic edging. Also worked on keeping my weight forward, going down the fall line. Good trunk workout, as well as legs (quads, hamstrings, thighs, glutes). Maximum heart rate decent, considering I hadn’t been out on a good sprint since January. Kept hydrated (1.5 liters throughout workout period) as sun was strong and sweat ensued.

Thanks to Sam for pointing out the superb “iMyself and me” site. If you own an iPod, or suffer from iPod envy, then this site will be all “wow.”

ny times: dowd on theocracy

Maureen Dowd is one of my favorite columnists for the New York Times. Her column in today’s edition is priceless, and sums up how I feel about BushCo.
