dst is a bugger

I’m having a harder time making the transition to daylight saving time this year. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I’m a bit of a night owl. And my allergies are fighting a tough battle this time of year, thus adding another layer of “grunge” to the mix. Combine that with the novelty of a new Mac, and the fact that I’m porting all of my email from Microsoft Entourage to Apple Mail (which involves moving over 15,000 messages from five different accounts), and there’s a lot to keep me occupied.

Why the move to another app, you ask? The basic reason: Mail runs natively on the Intel Core Mac, whereas Entourage runs in emulation. Also, the Unix-standard mailboxes used by Mail are a lot less corruption-prone than the monolithic database used my Entourage. Although I’m a huge fan of Entourage (I’m still of the opinion that it’s the best POP3 mail application ever made for the Mac, if not for personal computers, in general), Microsoft doesn’t plan to have a native version available until late-2006 or early-2007 – and I can’t live with poky performance until then. So I’m moving to Mail, which is pretty decent in its 2.0.8 iteration. And I’ve found a great resource in Hawk Wings, a site dedicated to Mail power users.

But back to the DST issue: it’s a tough transition this year. I felt absolutely dead on the bike ride to work this morning, and I hope I’m feeling more energetic come the PPTC Tuesday night ride this evening. We’ll see. Perhaps I’ll hit the sack earlier tonight.

And how about the Florida Gators’ dominant performance in last night’s NCAA Division I basketball championship game? Aside from the fact that UCLA scored first, Florida absolutely ruled the court. Kudos to the team from my mom’s alma mater.
