nats win!

Just got back from RFK, where the Nationals won their home opener in front of a sellout crowd. The energy in the stadium was intoxicating – so great to see the D.C. fans support their new team.

I’ll post pictures tomorrow (the batteries in the camera just lasted until the end of the game), but here are a few quick observations/musings:

  • The line at the main gate mag & bag was very poorly organized. I should’ve gone to a side gate, as I ended up waiting almost an hour to get into the stadium.
  • As such, I missed G.W. Bush throwing the first pitch (it was a ball, high and center – which is good, as he was using the actual ball used in the last Senators game at RFK in 1971).
  • RFK actually sells veggie dogs! This made sprite very happy – and the dog actually tasted fairly good, to boot!
  • Our seats (in section 314) are superb, with great sightlines. The crowd in our section is great, too, with die-hard fans who cheer with gusto.
  • The opening day program cost $10, which is a lot – but it’s from the first Nationals opening day at RFK.
  • Councilman Kwame Brown was at the game, which is a bit odd, as he’s been outspoken against the construction of a new stadium. However, he is supportive of the team, and of RFK Stadium. It was good to see him.
  • Riding Metro to the game wasn’t a big deal – I caught the Blue line in Rosslyn after work and had a seat the whole way. Going back, though, sprite and I walked to Union Station to catch the Red line, as the throng at the Stadium-Armory stop was massive and wasn’t moving.

All-in-all, it was a great experience. Next trip to RFK is Monday night, against the Marlins.
